Profile Overview

Dr. Daniel Innocent is a distinguished Eye Specialist (Optometrist), public health advocate, and visionary leader in preventive eye care.

He earned his Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from Madonna University Nigeria in 2016 and has since dedicated his professional career to combating avoidable vision impairment through innovative, community-based eye care interventions.

He is the Medical Director of DANNY OCULAR SERVICES LTD (DOS Eye Clinic), where he leads impactful clinical services alongside large-scale outreach programmes aimed at expanding access to quality eye care among underserved populations.

Dr. Daniel Innocent currently serves as the Eye Specialist (Optometrist) at the Government House Clinic, Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria, where he provides specialized eye care services within one of the highest levels of state healthcare delivery systems.

In May 2024, he established the Civil Servants Eye Clinic Unit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, under the leadership of Dr. Mina Ikuru, significantly improving access to eye care services for government workers.

He also coordinated statewide eye screening services for civil servants during the August 2024 Civil Service Week in Rivers State, Nigeria.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to institutional health promotion, Dr. Daniel Innocent conducted an eye sensitization workshop and comprehensive eye screening programme for staff of the Rivers State Ministry of Health on October 26, 2023, under the leadership of Dr. Ndidi Chikanele Utchay.

Dr. Daniel Innocent is also a Fellowship candidate of the Nigerian Postgraduate College of Optometrists (NPCO), reflecting his continuous pursuit of advanced professional development, clinical excellence, research, and leadership in optometric and public health practice.

As Founder and Chairman of the School Children’s Vision Detection and Referral Initiative (SCVDRI), Dr. Daniel Innocent leads a non-governmental and humanitarian initiative committed to reducing avoidable vision impairment among school children through early detection, timely referral, public awareness, teacher training, and school-based eye health interventions.

Through this initiative, he continues to promote collaboration between the health and education sectors while advocating for preventive eye care among children and vulnerable populations.

An accomplished author and eye health educator, Dr. Daniel Innocent has contributed significantly to public health education through several publications, including:

He has also consistently enlightened the public through media engagements on platforms such as Wave FM 91.7 and NTA Port Harcourt.

Notably, on December 26, 2025, he was hosted as a distinguished guest speaker, where he spoke extensively on the topic: “Staying Safe Against Adenovirus Conjunctivitis (Apollo)” , raising critical awareness on the prevention, early identification, and control of the highly contagious viral eye infection.

Through his professional practice, advocacy programmes, institutional collaborations, educational initiatives, and public health campaigns, Dr. Daniel Innocent continues to demonstrate exceptional commitment to preventive eye healthcare, community vision screening, child eye health advocacy, and the reduction of avoidable blindness across communities.
